Comm: Wasting Tea Time by MGillustrations Comm: Wasting Tea Time by MGillustrations
EDIT: Changed the brightness since the first image looked gaudy. Now it looks more accurate.

Completed commission for :iconhappynessinajar: who wanted it to be made into a poster. The original is 14x17 and the poster will be made into 18x24. Originally it was asked an older drawing be made into a poster but it was over a year and a half old so I figured it was better to create something specifically for her that would ultimately be better.

I mixed a few fashion genres in with this one including punk, goth, and lolita. A couple colors were suggested and I went mostly with a pink and purple theme since both colors are used in all the fashion genres stated, albeit differently. The main influence on the drawing was a bit of Alice in Wonderland mixed with Art Nouveau, adding a risque edge with the teacup-shaped pasties with tea bags hanging from them. I wanted to use as little black as possible to keep it elegant and not too dark.

From the initial sketch the skirt was changed to be a fluffier lolita-type skirt and the hat was changed to a cupcake. The yellow slanted skirt piece is like an overly large antique doily, the belt's buckle has a stylized I on it since the customer's name begins with an I, and the cuffs have a lock and key on them, respectively. I tried to stay within complimenting colors of the pink and purple without going too bold but I did want the blue to add a bit of pop against the delicate colors and to frame the subject well. The border is meant to be the tea spilling from the tipped cup.

Overall I am satisfied with how it came out. I would have been finished sooner, but some medical issues came up and I wasn't able to work as fast as I usually do. Again watermark because it's a commission.

Thank you :iconhappynessinajar: for allowing me to create this for you. I hope you enjoy your poster!

Tools used: Micron Sakura ink pens, Faber Castell ink pens in black and sepia, Prismacolor pencils, Crayola colored pencils, white gel pen

Thanks. She's really been great through the entire process. I'm so used to people being up my butt about "when you gonna be done? Eww why is that in there? Change the color. Redo everything yesterday" that someone who's willing to work with me and let me have some time motivates me to do a better job.

You'd think people wouldn't act like that, seeing as you choose an artist for a commission because you know and like the way they work. Oh, well.

It's awesome that you got to do one for someone cool like that. :)

I had someone, about 5 years ago, who when I asked her to describe what she wanted gave me a 5 page essay, elaborately written, and I ended up missing a few major details like hair color because she went on and on about the menial details and when I posted it she went ballistic. In fact I don't think I ever got paid for that. Ah well. The only time I justify bothering the artist is when there is a severe lack of good communication and you're not updated about a change in any estimated time. But never harassment.

But yeah, wish all people were that great, especially since I've been having major trouble with my drawing arm and spend most hours drugged with painkillers. XD
