Changed the brightness since the first image looked gaudy. Now it looks more accurate.
Completed commission for
who wanted it to be made into a poster. The original is 14”x17” and the poster will be made into 18”x24”. Originally it was asked an older drawing be made into a poster but it was over a year and a half old so I figured it was better to create something specifically for her that would ultimately be better.
I mixed a few fashion genres in with this one including punk, goth, and lolita. A couple colors were suggested and I went mostly with a pink and purple theme since both colors are used in all the fashion genres stated, albeit differently. The main influence on the drawing was a bit of Alice in Wonderland mixed with Art Nouveau, adding a risque edge with the teacup-shaped pasties with tea bags hanging from them. I wanted to use as little black as possible to keep it elegant and not too dark.
From the initial sketch the skirt was changed to be a fluffier lolita-type skirt and the hat was changed to a cupcake. The yellow slanted skirt piece is like an overly large antique doily, the belt's buckle has a stylized “I” on it since the customer's name begins with an I, and the cuffs have a lock and key on them, respectively. I tried to stay within complimenting colors of the pink and purple without going too bold but I did want the blue to add a bit of pop against the delicate colors and to frame the subject well. The border is meant to be the tea spilling from the tipped cup.
Overall I am satisfied with how it came out. I would have been finished sooner, but some medical issues came up and I wasn't able to work as fast as I usually do. Again watermark because it's a commission.
for allowing me to create this for you. I hope you enjoy your poster!
